We must never forget what happened this day sixteen years ago. Our good friend and ally, the United States of America, was attacked by terrorists who hijacked planes and crashed them into important American landmarks – the Twin Towers in New York City and the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. If it wasn’t for the brave passengers on board the fourth plane, the White House or Congress could have been hit as well.
This was the day that terrorists declared war on the United States and its allies, and we must not forget all the men and women who lost their lives this day. From passengers in the hijacked planes to rescuers and people in the buildings hit, over a thousand people lost their lives this day.
We must fight them in all areas. Not just with weapons of war, but also with words and ideas. They seek to impose their view of what is right in the world and extinguish the Western way of life. We must fight for the freedoms we cherish every day and protect all those who we care about. For if we do not stand against these terrorists, who will? For if we do not remember what happened this day in 2001, who will?
